Privacy notice

Last updated November 2026

This notice explains what personal data we collect when you contact us or engage us, why we hold it, who else sees it, and how to have it removed.

Who is responsible

The controller is YHH Labs s. r. o., IČO 57 945 659, a company registered in Slovakia. For anything in this notice, write to office@slovakbydescent.com — we will give you the registered address on request, and it appears in full on every invoice.

What we collect

When you send a case review request: your name, email address, where you live, which generation your Slovak ancestor belongs to, which documents you already hold, which countries hold the remaining records, any deadline you are working towards, and whatever you tell us in the message field.

If we go on to work together: the civil records the application is built from — birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates for you and for the generations between you and your ancestor — together with passport details, addresses, employment and education history, and criminal background checks. This is special-category-adjacent material and we treat it accordingly.

Why we hold it, and on what basis

Enquiries are processed on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the form, so that we can answer the question you asked. Once you engage us, processing is necessary to perform that contract. Where records must be passed to Slovak authorities, processing is also necessary to comply with the legal requirements of the application itself.

Who else sees it

Only those who need to in order to run your case: the cooperating Slovak attorneys where a matter requires legal handling, official translators accredited by the Ministry of Justice, archives and registry offices holding the records we request, and the Slovak authorities the application is submitted to. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising.

Where it is stored

Form submissions and case documents are held in encrypted storage hosted in the European Union — in Frankfurt, Germany — accessible only to the people working on your case. Email correspondence is held on our mail provider’s servers. We keep no copies outside these systems.

How long we keep it

Anything you submit through a form is deleted automatically sixty days after it was last touched, unless it has become part of a live case. Case material is kept for as long as the engagement runs, and afterwards only for as long as we are required to. Either way it is deleted on request, at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold, have it corrected, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive it in a portable form. Where processing rests on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Write to office@slovakbydescent.com and we will act on it.

If you believe we have handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Slovak data protection authority — Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov Slovenskej republiky, Hraničná 12, 820 07 Bratislava.
